Carols at the House 2018 presented by the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs decks the Concert Hall with the brilliance of baroque trumpets and sublime choruses by Handel and Bach and opulent versions of familiar carols inspired in the fabulous arrangements by Robert Shaw that have provided the soundtrack to Christmas for generations.
Conductor Brett Weymark has added a few surprises in the form of delightful music from stage and screen, story-telling, some sublime silliness and, of course, audience participation. Acclaimed Australian opera star Teddy Tahu Rhodes lends his rich baritone to the proceedings.
The performances feature the music of renowned American choral composer Robert Shaw, arranged by himself and Robert Russell Bennett. His beautiful, heartwarming Christmas compositions in four suites, The Many Moods of Christmas, are sung by Christmas choirs around the world.

Discover: Christmas Choral Classics
Alongside the Carols of the House concert, Sydney Philharmonia also offers a workshop, "Discover: Christmas Choral Classics" where participants explore the music and sing excerpts from some of the best loved Christmas carols in a singing workshop prior to the concert.
Set in the beautiful Northern Foyer of the Sydney Opera House, our workshop is led by Sarah Penicka-Smith, one of Sydney's premier choral conductors. Explore the history behind Christmas music tradition, get into the mood by singing a few favourites, and then enjoy an exclusive sneak peek of the full cast rehearsing Carols at the House in the Concert Hall.
